Understanding Wuthering Waves

With less than a week until the highly anticipated release of Wuthering Waves, seasoned players and newcomers alike are eagerly preparing to dive into the action-packed world of resonators, echoes, and epic battles. However, navigating the intricacies of character selection, team building, and resource management can be daunting without the right guidance. Fear not, as we’ve compiled a comprehensive starter guide to help you embark on your Wuthering Waves journey with confidence.

Wuthering Waves is a strategic RPG that challenges players to assemble teams of resonators, powerful characters with unique abilities, to conquer various challenges, including the formidable Tower of Adversity. Success in Wuthering Waves hinges on careful team composition, effective resource management, and strategic decision-making.

Character Selection and Building

With over 18 playable characters, with one more to be added when the game launches, Wuthering Waves offers a rich roster for players to collect. These fighters hail from diverse elemental backgrounds, wielding the familiar Electro and Glacio alongside more exotic options like Havoc and Spectro. This elemental variety extends to their combat styles as well, with characters specializing in everything from close-quarters swordsmanship to ranged attacks with magical pistols.

Before diving into battle, it’s crucial to understand the key elements of character selection and building in Wuthering Waves. Resonators are the backbone of your team, and choosing the right combination of characters is essential for success.

Resonator Classes and Roles

Resonators come in various classes, each with distinct roles:

  • Main DPS: These characters serve as the primary damage dealers and typically excel in dealing damage to multiple enemies or bosses.
  • Sub DPS: Sub DPS resonators provide supplementary damage and utility, often assisting the main DPS or filling gaps in team composition.
  • Support: Support resonators offer utility, healing, buffs, and other forms of assistance to enhance the team’s overall performance.

Understanding each resonator’s strengths, weaknesses, and role within your team is crucial for optimal performance.

Early Stamina Investment

In the early stages of the game, players must prioritize leveling and building their resonators efficiently. Prioritize allocating a significant portion of your stamina towards fully building and leveling up your main DPS resonators, as they serve as the primary damage dealers in your team and are essential for clearing waves efficiently. However, it’s crucial to balance this investment by also considering other key characters in your team. By maintaining a well-rounded team composition and distributing stamina investment strategically, you can ensure that your team is optimized for success.

Ascension and Skill Levels

Ascension and skill levels play pivotal roles in maximizing the potential of your characters in Wuthering Waves. Ascension involves ascending your characters to higher levels, which not only increases their base stats but also unlocks new abilities or improves existing ones.

Resource Management

Effective resource management is vital for success in Wuthering Waves. Players must prioritize the allocation of resources such as experience points, wave plates, and resonance potions to maximize their team’s potential.

Sonance Casket

Scattered throughout the vibrant world of Wuthering Waves are mysterious Sonance Caskets. These relics, remnants of a shattered past known as the Sonoro Sphere, hold valuable secrets waiting to be unearthed. Players who find and collect these Caskets can trade them with Relic Merchant Chenpi, found in various towns and the main city of Jinzhou.

You can use an interactive map online to find Sonance Caskets and other valuable resources scattered across the Wuthering Waves world.

Exchanging these Caskets grants access to valuable rewards and is believed to be a key factor in unraveling the mysteries of the Sonoro Sphere.

Wave Plates and Ascension Materials

Wave plates are valuable resources used for ascending resonators and enhancing their abilities. Acquiring wave plates through activities such as defeating world bosses is essential for character progression.

Simulation Training and World Bosses

While simulation training offers rewards, prioritizing world bosses for ascension materials is recommended for efficient resource utilization.

World bosses in Wuthering Waves are formidable opponents that beckon skilled players with the promise of legendary loot. Defeating these challenging foes can reward you with rare equipment, crafting materials, and even exclusive character shards.

Echoes

Echoes, essential equipment in the game, are obtained through Overworld farming, facilitating multiple daily explorations, especially in multiplayer mode. Ranging from one to four in cost and rank, echoes offer various stats depending on their rarity. Advancing the Data Bank level early is crucial for unlocking higher-rank echoes and maximizing their potential. Additionally, each character can equip echoes based on their terminal level, with load-outs typically consisting of a mix of one, three, and four-cost echoes.

Crafting and Synthesis Systems

Northeast of Shinzo lies the synthesizer, a key location for crafting HP recovery or revival items, portable waypoints, and upgrading materials. Crafting here not only produces essential items for breakthroughs, ascensions, and upgrades but also grants proficiency, increasing your synthesis level and rewarding Asterid and XP materials.

Additionally, Uncle Way’s Weapon Franchise offers weapon breakthroughs and skill materials for sale every week, purchasable with shell credits, the in-game currency easily obtainable without spending stamina. Crafting weapons requires various materials and weapon molds, obtainable from defeating bosses like the Bellor Calamity or weekly bosses.

Gacha System

In Wuthering Waves, you get new characters and weapons through “Convening,” basically gacha pulls. There are two ways to pay:

  • Astrites: These are premium crystals, usually bought with real money, but sometimes earned in-game.
  • Tides: These are free currencies earned by playing. There are different Tides for different banners, having a weapon and character banner separately depending on what you need to pull:
    • Standard Banner: Use Lustrous Tides here to get a mix of characters and weapons.
    • Event Banners: These are temporary banners with a featured character (use Radiant Tides) or weapon (use Forging Tides). They give you a higher chance of getting the new stuff!

Wuthering Waves also has a pity system:

  • You’re guaranteed a 4-star character every 10 pulls.
  • You’re guaranteed a 5-star character after 80 pulls without getting one.
  • The weapon banner always guarantees the rate up, there is no 50/50.

Remember, gacha pulls are random, so spend wisely! But with some planning and these tips, you can build a strong team in Wuthering Waves.
