Review

Makima is the second unit from the first NIKKE collaboration, which was Chainsaw Man. This event was kinda underwhelming, and the same can be said for the units released here. She has some good niche usage, but most of the time can be replaced by better options.

She provides attack speed and defense for all allies when attacked 20 times with her skill 1, and this will proc often enough as the rest of her kit allows her to taunt everything. The problem is that the taunt is only 3 seconds long, meaning this skill will be hard to keep up.

Skill 2 taunts all enemies after landing 120 attacks, which is a full SMG magazine by default, not counting buffs or overload gear.

This skill also allows Makima to cheat death once per battle for 7 seconds, the biggest concern with this skill is that the second time she taunts everyone, she is most likely dead on all scenarios.

The other issue with her taunt is that it only lasts for 3 seconds, meaning you need multiple lines of max ammunition and bastion cube for her to actually act as a proper tank and proc this skill frequently enough.

Last, her burst makes her gain pierce and also recover HP / increase her HP potency during skill 2 cheat death mechanic, helping her to stay alive. Once again, same problem as skill 2, if the stage has multiple enemies, she will be dead after the first taunt even with this heal.

Campaign

Early campaign doesn’t really matter what team composition you use, but outside of bosses, Makima is an underwhelming unit since she will be killed on the second rotation thanks to her burst 99% of the times.

However, for bosses, she is actually a good unit that can allow you to bypass one-shot and annoying mechanics. She also doesn’t require a lot of investment, making her a perfect NIKKE for cheesing bosses.

Solo & Union Raid

If the boss has adds, Makima is kind of useless, as we’ve already mentioned. However, if the boss doesn’t have adds, she is a good filler unit for your later teams (team 4 or 5) if you need a taunter that can keep herself alive… more or less.

The downside is that every patch we’re getting new units and making team compositions easier and the nice units like Makima are losing their spot even for this type of content since there are just a lot of better alternatives.

Should you reroll for Makima?

No. You can’t get her outside the collaboration event, and for now we don’t know if Shift Up has any plans on doing reruns.
